:: General Building - 33 Shortland Street The General Building is one of the best preserved Chicago-style high rises in Auckland. Built in 1928 for The Yorkshire Insurance Company, the General Building stands nine stories high and has an imposing and beautifully rendered exterior. Visitors step through the arched entrance into a golden-lit foyer of marble and elaborate brass detailing. We have completed extensive refurbishments resulting in elegant interiors which complement the heritage aspects of the building. The building is home to a number of the city's leading investment managers, lawyers and recruitment firms. Wine Chambers, owned and managed by the proprietor of No.5, offers fine service and wonderful ambience in the heart of the city.
